Andrei Stratulat
Hostos Student Ambassador
Andrei Stratulat was born in Galati, Romania in 1985 and came to the United States to study as an International Student in 2004, when he moved to Minnesota to attend Concordia College. Andrei was not satisfied with his course of study at Concordia and he had a desire to move to New York City and attend the City College of New York to study Electrical Engineering. However, he missed the deadline to enroll at the City College of New York and was recommended, by their admissions office to apply to Hostos Community College and participate in the Joint Program in Electrical Engineering (with City College.)
Since Andrei has arrived at Hostos, he has been a participant in the Summer Honors Institute, became a member and participant in the Hostos Student Leadership Academy's Student Ambassador Program, became an executive member (Vice President for Service) of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society and he has worked as a tutor in both Chemistry and Physics, for Professor Yoel Rodriguez and Professor Mohammad Sohel. Andrei also did a summer research internship with Dr. Sohel at City College in Nano Technology.
Andrei has participated in the 2009 The New York State Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic and Asian Legislative Caucus in Albany. He was specially selected and chosen to be interviewed for the CUNY Leadership Academy Fellowship Program, (one of only four members of the Hostos Student Leadership Academy to be given this opportunity.) Andrei also served as an officer in the French and Italian Club last year.
Andrei has gone to give testimony before the Bronx Borough Board, helped to plant over 900 trees in St. Mary's Park as part of the Million Trees New York City Project last spring, walked to help fight the spread of HIV/AIDS at AIDS Walk New York in 2008 and 2009. He was also a participant at the campus Cancer Awareness Activity in the winter of 2008 and has dedicated himself to doing over forty hours of service each semester that he has been a part of the Hostos Student Leadership Academy.
Andrei is also a dedicated leader in the Leadership Academy, who has sought out activities for the participants in the Academy to participate in both on and off campus. He was the Chair of the Friday Ambassador Workshop Committee in spring 2009 and is the Chair of the Excursion Committee in fall 2009.
Andrei is scheduled to graduate from Hostos at the end of this semester and he is currently taking classes at the City College of New York in the Joint Program in Electrical Engineering, which he will transfer into this coming spring to continue his studies in Electrical Engineering.
Andrei hopes to continue to pursue his acts of civic engagement by designing and implementing a community service action with the Food Bank of New York this coming December, and is actively looking forward to being able to give back to his new home community. Andrei lives in Mount Vernon, New York, but has come to love the Bronx.
