Kerri Ann Mchayle and New York Governor David A. PatersonHostos Student Ambassador

Kerri-Ann was born in Jamaica in a small town in the parish of St. Elizabeth. She arrived in the U.S. six years ago and now lives in the Northeast Bronx. Kerri-Ann is in her third semester here at Hostos and besides being an officer of the Praise Christian Club and the Black Student Union she is also an outspoken and vital member of the Hostos Leadership Academy’s Student Ambassador Program.

Kerri-Ann has spoken on behalf of Hostos as an ambassador at forums at City Hall and in Albany. She has worked diligently to make things better for other students and herself here on the Hostos campus and she has a genuine desire to not only represent the College, but to represent the Bronx. Kerri-Ann has developed relationships with numerous New York political figures and, as her service continues, there will no doubt there will be greater opportunities to outreach the political elite.

This past spring Kerri-Ann was named Minority Leader of the Democratic side at the Model New York State Senate Project, where she was one of ten ambassadors to take part in the program. Kerri-Ann is also the winner of a CUNY Leadership Award. She has also taken part in Councilman Charles Barron’s Operation Power, which is “an organization that engages blacks and Latinos in the political process and trains them to be political leaders.”

Kerri-Ann plans on starting a newspaper at Hostos next year and she will continue to do outreach on behalf of the Student Leadership Academy as an ambassador. Kerri-Ann also scored a 96 on the NLN exam this past spring and is looking forward to working as both a nurse and a political leader in the future.

Kerri-Ann Mchayle was elected in April 2009 to serve as Vice President for Student Affairs for the 2009-2010 school year. She is also a graduate of the CUNY Institute for Virtual Enterprise (IVE) and a first place award winner in their competition for June 2008.
