Capital Projects

The Office of Campus Planning & Development is responsible for developing and submitting Hostos’s annual request for capital funding from New York City and New York State officials.  The request is developed in consultation with the President, the Senior Vice President for Administration & Finance, and the Provost.  Implementation and management of funded projects is conducted in conjunction with CUNY’s Office of Facilities Planning, Construction and Management (FPCM) and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY).

Current Capital Projects, as of August 10, 2023

“A” Building / Allied Health Building (475 Grand Concourse) Projects:

1. HVAC Project No. 1: Replacement of Nine Air Handling Units

All of the building’s nine air handling units (AHU) will be replaced. Delivery of the new AHU’s is expected at the end of August. Installation time is estimated at 3 weeks per unit and project completion is expected at the end of 2023/beginning of 2024.

2. Brick Façade Repair (facing Evelina Antonetty Playground)

South façade brick installation is 90% complete and the scaffolding will soon be removed. The lower brick wall of the childcare courtyard was discovered to have insufficient structural stability. A request for additional funding to completely rebuild this section of the wall is in progress.

“B” Building (500 Grand Concourse) Projects:

1. 3rd Floor Renovation Project

Design of the project has been completed. Construction funding is in place. The contract for the construction work has been issued. The construction schedule and move-out schedule for staff is still to be developed.

2. Remediation of Brick Bulge (south façade of 500 GC – the wall that faces the Memorial Garden)

Project will remediate the water infiltration issues that have caused the brick to bulge outward on the south façade of the building. Design is currently at 60% completion. Funding has been recently obtained for completion of the design through 100% construction documents. Construction Funding Authorization is underway through the Certificate to Proceed (CP) Request process. Construction is anticipated to begin late Summer/Fall 2024.

“C” Building / East Academic Complex (450 Grand Concourse) Projects:

1. Summer Boiler Project

The project will provide a smaller, more energy efficient boiler for use in the summer months when the existing (2) larger boilers are not needed. The actual boiler has now been installed. Duct work, plumbing, and gas work is ongoing.
