He has taught at private high schools here and abroad and at the State University of New York where he earned a Fulbright Lectureship in Spain and was invited to two National Endowments for the Humanities Summer Seminars for College Teachers, one at Yale University, and the other at Columbia University.

His essays in literary criticism appear in major scholarly journals around the nation, among them Modern Fiction Studies, English Language Notes, the Wallace Stevens Journal and Conradiana.

His creative writing, devoted to composing and translating poetry, appears in such journals as The Literary Review. His expertise in college-level assessment has led to publication and presentation of essays on the politics of writing assessment and to service by invitation on various City University writing-assessment projects. He has served as a College mentor and for many years on the College Preparatory Initiative, a program that links New York City high Schools to the City University of New York.
