Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR): The RCR is an online training that is required by CUNY for all faculty, staff and students involved in research-related activities. The Grants Office will require evidence of this training before proposals are submitted. This certification is currently valid for five years.
 
Human Research Protection Program (HRPP):  CUNY’s HRPP is responsible for the protection of the rights and welfare of human subjects in research projects that are conducted under the auspices of CUNY or by CUNY faculty, staff and students and RF CUNY staff. The college’s HRPP coordinator is:

Conflict of Interest: CUNY’s Conflict of Interest policy establishes standards to ensure that there is no reasonable possibility that any conflicting interests will bias the design, conduct, reporting or review of research projects at the University, regardless of the source of funding or the commercial exploitation of the results of such projects. Online CITI Training
CITI Training: CUNY subscribes to the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative’s (CITI) research compliance courses to fulfill CUNY’s educational requirements.

Instructions:
Please follow the steps outlined below to complete your training:

1. Log-in (or register if you are a first-time user) at https://www.citiprogram.org/Default.asp

2. Click on “Add a course or update your learner groups”

3. Select the curriculum which you would like to complete:
  • Responsible Conduct of Research (REQUIRED)
  • Human Subjects Protection Basic Course (for proposals involving human subjects, if unsure, reach out to HRPP Coordinator)
  • Human Subjects Research Refresher Course (for proposals involving human subjects, if unsure, reach out to HRPP Coordinator)
  • Animal Care and Use
  • Conflict of Interest (REQUIRED)
The purpose of this chart is to provide a visual guide of the research compliance trainings that you are required to complete, depending upon your learner group (i.e. student, staff, or faculty member):

4.  Select the learner group [1] that best fits your position at CUNY and your role in research. Available options are:

5. Complete the required modules

6. Complete any optional modules that may be of interest to you
  
7. Submit a copy of your completion certificate as follows:
  • Submit a copy of your Responsible Conduct of Research training certificate to the Research Integrity Officer (RIO) of your College, and attach it to any grant proposal (internal or external) for which your are a PI or co-PI that is submitted to your grants officer.
  • Upload your Human Subjects Protection Basic Course training certificate to your user profile in IDEATE.
  • Upload your Human Subjects Research Refresher Course training certificate to your user profile in IDEATE.
  • Submit your Animal Care and Use training certificate to the IACUC Administrator at your College
  • Submit a copy of your Conflict of Interest training certificate to the Conflict of Interest Officer of your College, and attach it to any PHS-funded grant proposal or contract that is submitted to your grants officer.

[1] NOTE: The Conflict of Interest course does not have any learner groups, as course requirements for all individuals are the same.
