Curriculum

Typical Courses for Both Day and Evening/Weekend Session Students

Semester One:

In the first semester, students take these courses together in a block:

  • English 089 (Basic Writing I)
  • Sociology 101 (Introduction to Sociology)
  • VPA 192 (Fundamentals of Public Speaking)
  • SSD 100 (College Orientation)
  • First-year Seminar: Students engage in collaborative study of common readings and writing assignments that reflect ways to achieve success in school and in life.

Semester Two:

In the second semester, students take a more individualized program, based on the progress they have made in the first semester:

  • English 090 (Basic Writing II) and/or
    English 092 (Developmental Reading) or
    English 110 (Expository Writing)
  • Psychology 101 (General Psychology)
  • Math, course level depending on placement
  • Other courses according to the requirements of an individual’s major
