Pregnancy and Related Conditions

Hostos Community College does not discriminate against employees or students on the basis of pregnancy or related conditions.

Employees

Employees who are pregnant or have given birth are entitled to reasonable accommodation due to the pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions so that the employee can perform the essential requisites of the job, unless such an accommodation would cause an undue hardship on the employer’s business.  Examples of reasonable accommodations may include: bathroom breaks; leave for a period of disability arising from childbirth; breaks to facilitate increased water intake; periodic rest for those who stand for long periods of time; and assistance with manual labor.  Employees requesting accommodations can contact the Human Resources Department, located in the “B” Building, Room 215 (telephone: 718-518-6652).

Students

Students’ absences due to medical conditions relating to pregnancy will be excused for as long as deemed medically necessary by a student’s doctor, and students will be given the opportunity to make up missed work. Students needing assistance can seek accommodations from the Accessibility Resource Center, located in the Savoy Building, Room D-101P (telephone: 718-518-4454), or by contacting Title IX Coordinator and Chief Diversity Officer Ms. Latoya Jeffers, who can be reached at the Office of Compliance and Diversity, located at Room A-336 (telephone: 718-518-4284).
