Training & Development

Unlock your potential

It is important that employees possess the knowledge and skills necessary to perform their jobs successfully. As partners in service, the Human Resources Department is committed to making that happen by conducting training programs and providing professional development opportunities to ensure a productive, motivated, and successful work force.

The Human Resources Department, in cooperation with the CUNY Office of Professional Development and Learning Management, and the City Training Center, is pleased to offer you the opportunity to participate in a variety of professional development programs. We are able to offer programs and courses on many different topics throughout the year and will make announcements when they are scheduled. To qualify, the course you choose must be work related. In addition, your participation must be recommended by your direct supervisor and approved by your Division Head. Please note that all courses taken come out your department budget and will need approval. In addition, we have brought back the JUMP! Becoming a Highly Effective Team Leader. This course is an interactive role play and involves activities based on real-world scenarios designed to stimulate common challenges of leaders at Hostos.
The cost of these professional development opportunities remains minimal for your department (an employee will never be asked to pay for a PDLM course).  Sexual harassment prevention courses for campus SHAIC members are provided free of charge.
We believe this is a good start for the new academic year.  We hope that you can “Come Learn with Us” in OHRM’s Professional Development and Learning Management Office and right here on campus. To register for CUNY Professional Development Program courses, employees must enter their contact information and selected courses into the PDLM E-Application (“E-App”). Employees must then print and sign the “E-App,” obtain their supervisor’s signature, and submit it to their college Human Resources Office for authorization.  We will forward the authorized “E-App” to the OHRM Professional Development Office for processing. E-Applications should be received in the Professional Development Office at least 10 days before the start of a course. The Professional Development Office generally confirms an applicant’s course registration five to seven days before the start of the course. Training manuals are available in the HR office.
