Community Relations



The Office of Governmental Affairs is responsible for promoting educational policies set by the President of the College and The City University of New York. The Director is responsible for maintaining communication and relationships with elected legislative leaders at the federal, state and city level. The Director serves as an advocate and principal liaison for the college in monitoring the political landscape for funding opportunities as well as legislation and bills affecting the college and/or its mission. The Office helps coordinate state-wide and national conferences with such groups as the Black and Puerto Rican Legislative Caucus, SOMOS, Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and other higher education advocacy groups. The Director is a member of the college President Extended Cabinet and a member of the CUNY Legislative Action Committee (CLAC) with responsibility for providing political intelligence, coordinating the college’s lobbying efforts and providing speakers for public hearings.
