On behalf of the Hostos Community College Foundation, thank you to all who attended and gave in support of the 2019 Scholarship Benefit. We are still basking in the glow of your incredible generosity.

Held at the Glen Island Harbour Club in New Rochelle, New York, on April 17, supporting Hostos students on the road to a brighter future was the goal of the night. In addition to the students, the Hostos Foundation Board honored longtime friends Robert Sancho, Vice President of Development and External Affairs at BronxCare Health System, and presented him with a Lifetime Community Service Award.

Antone Hernton, Chief Executive Officer at Kerington Spencer Sibling Limited Inc., received the Philanthropic Impact Award; and Rafael Toro, Goya Foods Inc. Director of Public Relations, accepted the Corporate Impact Award on behalf of the company. NY1 anchor and author Cheryl Wills shined as the Mistress of Ceremony and guests enjoyed a live performance by Nelson González and his All-Star band.

The Hostos Community College Foundation raised $280,000 in support of student scholarships, the Bridge Tuition and Assistance Program, and the Two Generation Student Retention and Degree Acceleration Program, which helps student-parents remain engaged with the College during the summer months, thus increasing retention and accelerating their progress toward degree completion. Former Two-Gen program participant Texy Texeira was in attendance with her 10-year-old daughter, Ariana, and her heartfelt testimony about the positive impact the program has had on her family garnered a standing ovation.

This year’s event was made possible thanks to the scholarship benefit committee and sponsors, including: Presenting Sponsors: BronxCare Health System and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation; Diamond Sponsor: CITGO; Community Sponsors, Acacia Network, Friends of the Chairman, and Goya; Ambassador Sponsors: 1199SEIU, HSBC, The Calderón Family, WellCare, Inca Kola, Catholic Charities, and Montefiore; and Friend Sponsors: Henry Schein, Ponce Bank, Queens College, New York Presbyterian, Advertisement Carriers Enterprise, and Berkeley College.
