Goya Food Donation to Hostos

Our hearts and food pantry shelves are full, thanks to a substantial donation from Goya Foods.

In addition to Goya’s existing partnership with Hostos Community College and its Food Studies program, the company is donating a total of 1,500 pounds of non-perishable food to the College’s food pantry this year. The pantry received 750 pounds of food from Goya on June 13, and the remaining 750 pounds will be delivered in the fall. Hostos Community College Development Manager Idelsa Méndezcollaborated with Goya’s Director of Public Relations, Rafael Toro, to facilitate the donation.

“The idea of food insecurity is something that Goya finds unacceptable,” Toro said. “This contribution should assist students to focus on their studies.”

The pantry is an emergency need-based resource that provides grocery items for food-insecure students and their families. It has been in operation since 2011 under Hostos’ Single Stop program, and has served approximately 5,080 students annually since 2013-14. Due to a lack of adequate funding and support, the pantry had a limited stock in 2017-18. Goya’s contribution to the pantry will now help the College in its continued effort to support students dealing with food insecurity.
