Big Event group infant of Hostos A building

Hostos is all about community, and the College came together on April 24 to help mark its 50th Anniversary (officially April 22, 2018) during a day of giving back.

“The Big Event” included street cleanup, as volunteers took to the streets sweeping up refuse and waste in the area. The activity incorporated 149th Street, from Gerard Avenue to Morris Avenue, between 144th Street and 149th Street and included revitalization of Hostos’ Memorial Garden.

Volunteers also gardened at La Finca del Sur, assisting by weeding, planting seedlings, maintaining and restoring plant beds, and painting garden structures.

It was a true family affair as Hostos student Angel Mercado and his son, Angel, Jr., and many other faculty, staff and students, worked right alongside President David Gómez and his wife and they donated their time to clean around the College.

The Big Event was made possible by the President's Office, Hostos' Conference Center and Facilities.
