Hostos Men’s Basketball Continues to Shine

The Hostos Caimans men’s basketball team has been quite a success story since its inception in 2000. Winning the NJCAA Division III National Title in 2005, the team reached the sports pinnacle.

Yet over the past three seasons under the direction of its head coach, Dr. Jody King, the team keeps raising the bar. On December 15, 2013, Dr. King earned his 100th win as a college head coach. At Hostos since 2011 Coach King, who has a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology, immediately brought a level of accountability and consistency to the program.

After his 100th coaching victory, Dr. King said he was honored to be recognized for his achievement, but also very proud of his current and former players.

“Yes, I am proud of reaching this milestone, but I am more proud of the continual growth and development of our student-athletes.”  Dr. King said. “To have former players and coaches be in the gym today and share this accomplishment with our current student-athletes is very special. I am proud to be a coach and have the opportunity to help mold these young men on a continual basis, especially here at Hostos. Our success is a byproduct of our belief that we are a family who will go the extra mile for each other.  Nada es imposible.

The Caimans returned to the national spotlight again in late 2013, as they earned a No. 3 ranking in the NJCAA Division III Poll in December. This is one of the highest national rankings in the program’s history.
