The Lady Caimans, Hostos's basketball team

The Lady Caimans have solidified their spot in history by posting the most wins in the program’s history this season, after finishing the regular season with a 15-9 record.

The team can still add to the win column as they vie for a CUNYAC Championship title tonight at Queensborough Community College at 6:00 p.m.  The program is enjoying unprecedented success, as last season the team tied the 2007 record of most wins with 13. The Caimans are also ranked sixth in Region XV, the program’s highest ranking. The Lady Caimans will advance into the Region XV tournament and take on No. 3 Nassau Community College on Thursday, October 30.

This past weekend, the Lady Caimans battled in their last Region XV dual match against highly competitive Ulster and Dutchess Community College. The team came out victorious beating Ulster in five sets and Dutchess in three sets.

During the Ulster match up, the Lady Caimans were put to the test with a five-game thriller after winning the first two sets. The Ulster Senators challenged the Lady Caimans' tenacity and took the following two sets, forcing a deciding game. The team traded points with Ulster until the bitter end, when they finally pulled ahead with a two-point lead and held on for a 15-13 win over the Senators.

Leading middle blocker, Megan Patterson, had a phenomenal showing with 29 kills, hitting 38 percent, and 4 blocks. Seyma Soylu also had an outstanding game with 17 crushing kills and a team-high 28 digs.

In the second match of the day, the Lady Caimans found their stride against regional opponents Dutchess Falcons with a three-set victory. Megan had an exceptional game with 14 kills and an impressive .619 hitting percentage. Seyma Soylu also played incredibly well with 12 kills, 14 digs, and five service aces.

Congratulations to the Hostos Community College Women's Volleyball Team on a spectacular season and good luck in the CUNYAC Championship and Region XV Tournament!
