Professor Andy Connolly

A member of Hostos’ English Department, Professor Connolly holds a Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh. His scholarly publications include his monograph Philip Roth and the American Liberal Tradition. Released in hardback by Lexington Books in 2017 (with a paperback release following in 2019), the book examines how Roth’s fiction shows considerable concern with questions of class, ethnicity, race, gender, and literary culture.

Connolly has also published work in such peer-review journals as The Journal of American Studies and Philip Roth Studies. He has contributed chapters to numerous book collections on Roth and served as special editor for the most recent issue of Philip Roth Studies, released in March 2020. He is currently working on a new book, entitled American Carnage: Reading Fiction in the Age of Trump.

“All of Hostos is proud of Dr. Connolly,” said Provost Christine Mangino. “The award is a fitting tribute to his excellence as an educator and a critical thinker.”

The award is named after Feliks Gross and Henry Wasser, two of the founding members of the CUNY Academy for the Humanities and Sciences. Each year a group of highly qualified, academically impressive Professors from the CUNY system are chosen for this honor.

Congratulations, Professor Connolly!
