DREAM Team membersOn March 20, Hostos held its Third Annual Immigration Resource Fair that featured everything from special guest speakers to workshops to information for students, faculty and staff. And, it was all about celebrating migration.

Sponsored by the “Hostos DREAM Team” (which provided a dozen volunteers) and organized by Hostos Immigration Work Group, the all-day event community service organizations on the Bridge, a lecture in the afternoon, and a screening of a clip from the film, “The Unafraid,” which was accompanied by a visit from New York City Council Member Francisco P. Moya from Queen’s 21st district.

The afternoon panel featured President David Gómez, Dean Félix Cardona, and speakers Rosa Herrera, a Hostos alumna who spoke about her family’s journey as immigrants; Angy Rivera (NYSYLC), who spoke about financial empowerment, Surey I. Miranda-Alarcón (NYC Commission on Human Rights); and Leydi Bautista, Hostos (SGA). All four women offered personal stories and important advice and information.

This event would not have been possible without the efforts of Hostos Assistant Professor Inmaculada Lara-Bonilla from the Humanities Department, the Hostos Immigration Working Group, the Health & Wellness Center, the Division of Student Development and Enrollment Management, and the Student Leadership Academy.
