Tuesday, November, 19, 2013 (Bronx, NY) - On Tuesday, October 29, Maskana Adedjouman, German Santos and Makea Lowe, members of the Hostos Student Leadership Academy where honored for their dedication to learning and leadership training. The ceremony took place at Richard Harris Terrance on the campus of Borough of Manhattan Community College. The students were presented with (checks) from the University Student Senate (USS), the central association of university-wide senators.
This was the 2nd round of scholarships awarded to the University’s finest student leaders. Maskana and German were awarded USS Scholarships for Merit and Makea Lowe was awarded the Donald and Mary Ellen Passantino Scholarship, offered to international students and students with disabilities.

Maskana Adedjouman is a Civil Engineering major originally from Togo, West Africa with a 3.94 GPA, a member of the Hostos Student Leadership Academy Student Ambassador Program, an ASAP student, member of the New York Needs You Program, and is the Vice President for Leadership in the Phi Theta Kappa International Honors Society. Last summer, as a part of the International Scholar Laureate Program, Maskana studied abroad as an engineer for an internship program in China. He also represented Senegal as a part of the Hostos delegation that participated in the 2013 National Model United Nations-DC Conference in October.

German Santos is a Liberal Arts and Sciences major who hopes to get into the technology field when he graduates. He has participated in more than two hundred hours of volunteer service over the past three years and is a trained leader in the community. German is also the Treasurer of the English Club and served as the President and officer of the Ability Awareness Club and currently a member of the Hostos Emerging Leaders Organization. In his spare time, German alongside his twin brother plays in their band called La Banda Twin.

| Makea Lowe is a Digital Design and Animation major who has been a part of the Hostos Student Leadership Academy since her first semester. She is a member of the Ernesto Malave CUNY Corps Program, a Hostos Student Ambassador and recipient of scholarships and awards from the college on numerous occasions. Makea was also recognized for her volunteering on National Days of Service, working with students with disabilities and her efforts on campus as well as within CUNY. |
