President's Message

Greetings:

Dr. Félix V. Matos Rodriguez When I took office as President of Hostos Community College on July 1, 2009, I was delighted to learn that Hostos has a thriving alumni group.  Among our graduates are thousands of men and women who have make their mark in a variety of professions—the allied health sciences, communications, education, business and industry, as well as other fields.  Many have remained in the metropolitan area; others are scattered throughout the world.  Whether they are near or far, the Alumni Relations Office enables Hostos graduates to keep in touch with their former classmates and college personnel. It also offers them opportunities for meaningful involvement in the present-day life of the college and channels for contributing to its future.

In addition to sponsoring social and cultural events that appeal to a wide variety of interests, the Hostos Alumni Relations Office provides a number of post-graduation benefits for former students, such as career development assistance, employment placement, and other support services.  Moreover, the Hostos Alumni ID Card gives graduates access to the computing center, the library, and recreational facilities, as well as discounts on events presented by the Hostos Center for the Arts and Culture and courses offered through the Continuing Education and Professional Studies programs.

If you wish to become involved in the alumni group, Nydia R. Edgecombe, our Director of Alumni Relations, would love to hear from you.  Her office is now in Room D-214 at 120 East 149th Street (entrance on Walton Avenue), and she can be reached by phone at (718) 518-4189 or by email to nedgecombe@hostos.cuny.edu.  The association’s website is www.hostos.cuny.edu/alumni.

While Hostos will always live in your memories of the past, it also deserves a place of importance in your present and your future.  The successes you have achieved in your professional and personal life after college make you a valuable role model for our current students, who look to our graduates as sources of encouragement and symbols of hope.  Through active involvement in the alumni group, you will offer conclusive proof that “Hostos—one college, one family” is a commitment that has no expiration date.  On behalf of this college and that family, I thank you for your loyal support.

My very best regards,

Félix V. Matos Rodríguez, Ph.D.
