Robert Adon is the Athlete of the Week for his performances in the Hostos basketball team’s two games in the Montgomery College-Rockville Tournament. Against Howard CC, Adon was 9 of 12 from the field and 6 of 9 from the free throw line. He totaled 24 points, 10 rebounds, and two steals in leading his team to a 64-54 victory.

Against Montgomery College-Rockville in the finals of the tournament, Adon had his second straight double-double with 25 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 steals. He was an amazing 6 of 7 (86%) from behind the three point line and had 10 of his rebounds in the second half. The Caimans lost 81-68 in the finals to the host. In the first two games of the season, Adon is shooting a 67% from the floor.

Teamwork, drive, passion, and many other words may be used to describe what college teams should have to succeed. Another such word, sportsmanship, is one that is rarely acknowledged among players and schools.

This year coaches from the NJCAA Region XV schools met and voted on twelve students who’ve followed the definition of sportsmanship. One such player, Alpha Barry of Hostos’ Men’s Soccer team, was included on that list.

The Caimans played in very physical games throughout the 2009 season but every game featured the players of Hostos patting their opponents on their backs and asking if they were all right after every hit. Alpha was no exception as he always made sure his opponents were ok and became friends with many of them because of this level of sportsmanship.

Hostos Community College Athletics would like to congratulate Alpha Barry on being one of the NJCAA’s 2009 Men’s Soccer Region XV Sportsmanship Team members.
