The City University of New York is committed to
providing students and their families with a range of options for
paying their tuition bills. However, CUNY has changed the procedure
for those students choosing to use a credit card to pay tuition in
order to offset the cost of this service. This policy is similar to
that of many colleges and universities that accept credit cards for
tuition payments. |
Under the new policy effective July 1, 2008,
you may choose to pay your tuition charges online via your E-SIMS
account using a MasterCard, Discover or American Express card.
Please be aware that, when doing so, a non-refundable convenience
fee based upon your registration will be charged to your account
with your tuition and fees. Also please be aware that credit card
payments will no longer be accepted by mail or at the Bursar’s
window.
You may also pay your bill with an E-check
payment. Similar to a debit card, E-check electronically debits your
checking or savings account. E-check payments may be made via your
E-SIMS account.
If you are paying for any non- instructional
fees such as transcripts, readmission fees, application fees,
library fines, etc, you can not use a credit card at this time.
These charges must be paid at the Bursar’s office by cash, check or
money order only.
Hostos Community College continues to provide
an interest free payment plan via the Tuition Payment Plan. You can
log on at
www.tuitionpay.com/cuny for more information.
Hostos Community College also offers a Hardship
Deferment Plan.
Regardless of which payment option you choose,
you must make your payment no later than the due date on your
bill. If your payment is not received by your due date, your
registration may be cancelled.
If you are making a payment by credit card or
electronic check for a semester prior to your current registration,
you must go to “past semester” on your E-SIMS account.

Tuition Payment Options
Remember
that regardless of your payment option, we must receive your payment
by the due date on your bill!
1. Pay using a check or money order by
mail to:

- Pay in person by check, money order or
cash at the Bursar’s window.
- Pay a minimum amount using the hardship
deferral plan –See Schedule of Classes booklet or go to Bursar
website.
- Pay your bill by making
monthly payments through the Tuition Pay Plan for an $18.00
application fee. To sign up for this program go to www.tuitionpay.com/cuny,
or call (866) 267- CUNY.
- EFT- Payments- EFT payments will only be
accepted through your E-SIMS account where you will be presented
with a tuition fee bill. Please have your bank account and
routing numbers available when making your online payment.
- Pay by Visa, MasterCard, Discover or
American Express through your E-SIMS account. Credit card
payments will only be accepted over the web through the
University’s Third Party credit card processor. From E-SIMS, you
can view your tuition and fee billing. Prior to the completion
of the transaction, you will be informed of a convenience fee
charge that will be added to the amount of your bill. In
addition, you will receive email payment confirmations and
online viewing capabilities. Your account will be updated in
E-SIMS.

Frequently Asked Questions
Regarding Tuition and Fee Payments
1.
Can I pay my tuition bill with a credit card?
Yes. Credit card
payments can only be made via your E-SIMS account and will be
processed by the University’s Third Party credit card processor. You
will be charged a non-refundable convenience fee in addition to the
tuition and fees. The University will not accept credit card
payments directly at the Bursar’s window or by mail for the payment
of tuition and fees.

What types of credit cards are accepted?
MasterCard,
Discover, and American Express are accepted.
3.
Can I pay my tuition and fees with a debit card?
No. The
University’s Third Party processor does not utilize the Pin -based
debit card network.
4.
As a student, how do I pay online?
Log on your E-SIMS
account and enter your student ID and pin number. Select the “Pay
Now” tab to make your payment.
5.
Can I still pay online if I forget my pin number for my
e-Sims account?
No, you must first
have your pin number reset at the Help Desk, Room C-595, or
Registrar office, D-206
6.
When will I a get confirmation that the payment went through?
Once the payment
transaction is complete, you will receive an e-mail confirmation at
the address provided by the student or payee. All online payments
are recorded into E-SIMS. Students are informed of credit card
rejection immediately upon submission of the transaction.
7.
Can someone else pay my tuition for me?
Yes. Someone else can
pay for you; however, they must be able to access your E-SIMS
account in order to do this.
8.
Will I get a receipt in the mail?
No. you will not
receive a receipt in the mail. You will receive an email
confirmation after the
payment is submitted. You can obtain a copy of
your bill any time
after the next business day at the Bursar Office DB104
9.
I have registered for classes but have not received a bill.
Can I make an online payment?
Yes. A student can
make an online payment at any point after they register, up until
their bill due date.
10.
If I don’t pay by credit card, what are my other payment
options?
a. Pay by electronic check online. Log onto your E-SIMS account
and enter your student I.D and Pin number. Select the “Pay Now” tab
and click electronic check. Enter your bank routing and checking or
savings account numbers. Once you click the button, you will be
taken to the college’s ePayment processing website, where you can
make a payment that will be posted to your account the following
day. Note: only checking and saving accounts can be used.
b) Pay by check or
money order mailed to Hostos Community
College, Bursar’s Office, 120 East 149th Street,
Room B-105,
Bronx, N.Y. 10451 There is no fee for this option. Remember
the College must receive your payment by your due date.
c)
Pay by cash, check or money order at any of the Bursar Office
Windows.
d)
Pay your bill by making a monthly payment through the Tuition Pay
Plan. Participation in this program requires an application fee.

Why is this credit card policy with
convenience fees being implemented?
CUNY has found that
accepting tuition payment by credit card has become prohibitively
expensive because of the fees charged to CUNY for processing credit
card transactions. This expense is paid by CUNY out of the operating
budget thus reducing the funds available for academic programs and
services for all students.
