Hardship Deferment                                       For Fall and Spring Semester

In order to complete registration requirements, a student must pay tuition, student activity fees, Technology fee, and a consolidated services fee in full at the time of registration. If a student is not able to pay the full amount at registration due to extenuating circumstances a student may be able to apply for a hardship deferment.

The University's Hardship Deferral Program allows a college to defer a portion of a student's tuition liability until after the semester has begun. The guidelines for full-time/part-time, resident/non-resident students are as follows:

  • No tuition deferment for any student shall be granted for a total tuition liability of less than the community college undergraduate resident part-time rate per billable equivalent credit multiplied by six[6] or $810.00 dollars.

  • Under no circumstances can the Student Activities, Technology Fee, and Consolidated Services Fees be deferred.

  • The initial payment determined by the college is required for the student to be considered registered. [Refer to the Minimum Payment Schedule]

A student not paying full tuition at registration and being granted a hardship deferral, must sign the Bursar Invoice which includes a Hardship Deferral Policy [Promissory Note]. If the student does not meet the terms and conditions of the Promissory Note, a hold will be placed on his/her permanent records and the student will not be allowed another hardship deferment again.

The terms and conditions of the Promissory Note include the following:

  1. A second payment of at least 50% of the remaining balance [deferred amount] is due 30 days after the first day of the semester.

  2. The third and final payment [of the remaining balance] is due 60 days after the first day of the semester.

If a student defaults, at any time, on the terms of the Promissory Note, [i.e. misses the payment date] a $15 Non-Payment Service Fee will be added to the remaining balance due. If a student totally defaults on payment of the remaining balance his/her account will be referred to the University's collection agencies.
