MESSAGE FROM ANA GARCIA REYES, ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR COMMUNITY
RELATIONS AND STUDY ABROAD PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
COORDINATOR, DIVISION OF INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT

Ana Garcia Reyes

Greetings:

I am pleased to share with you a wonderful professional development opportunity for faculty, other education professionals, and grad and under-grad students with concentrations in education and education-related fields. Hostos’ Study Abroad Professional Development Program features classes at Hostos Community College followed by 10 days of cultural immersion and studies complemented with visits to historical sites and educational institutions in the Dominican Republic.

Given that there are over 1.4 million Dominicans in the US and 674, 787 live in New York State, it is important for professionals who work with Dominican students to learn about Dominican heritage and history, as well as the contributions that they have been making to the city, state and nation.

Program participants will gain new insights on Dominican students and their families, as well as in an in-depth understanding and appreciation of Dominican history, art, education and culture. Teachers can earn over 100 staff development hours, and return to their classrooms in the fall with fresh ideas for innovative curricula.  Program participants also have the opportunity to meet with policymakers, dignitaries and educational decision makers of the Dominican Republic.

This webpage will provide you with further Professional Development program details.  Please invite faculty, administrators, BOE and DOE teachers, guidance counselors and students who are majoring in education to take advantage of this wonderful cultural immersion learning experience.  For your convenience, herein, you will find an application for the program.

For further information, you may contact my assistant, Yocelyn Tarazona-Cubilette, at 718-518-4334, or at ltarazona@hostos.cuny.edu, or e-mail me at agreyes@hostos.cuny.edu.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Associate Dean Ana I. Garcia-Reyes
