SPECIAL NOTES TO STUDENTS
PLEASE REVIEW THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY SO THAT YOU CAN PLAN FOR YOUR COMMENCEMENT.
ELIGIBILITY TO MARCH:
The commencement ceremony is for all September 2012, February 2013 and June 2013 graduates.
However, June 2013 students are candidates and not official graduates. Their degrees will be awarded subject to completion of degree requirements by the appropriate deadline. The last day of the Spring 2013 term is Friday, May 24th, 2013.
For the June 2013 candidates, participating in the commencement ceremony does not automatically graduate the student. Every prospective graduate must be audited by the Registrar’s Office.
Lastly, the Registrar’s Office will post the commencement lists on a bulletin board outside the Registrar’s Office (D-207) by mid-May. Students can check their names on the bulletin board prior to picking up tickets at the Office of Student Activities.
NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS:
More than 700 students are expected to graduate this spring.
OBTAINING CAP AND GOWN:
All graduating students who are participating in the ceremony must be robed. Please visit the Hostos Bookstore (C-Building Lobby) starting Tuesday, May 28th to purchase your cap and gown. The cost of the robe is about $55.00. For more information, visit the Office of Student Activities (C-371) or contact the office at (718) 518-6561.
Graduates will not need a ticket to participate in the ceremony. However, their guests will. Each graduate will receive two (2) tickets. If there are additional tickets available, students will be notified at least 3 days before the ceremony.
Tickets will be available at the Office of Student Activities (C-371) starting Wednesday, May 29th. The hours of distribution will be from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. All students that plan to attend the ceremony must pick up their tickets by Wednesday, June 5th. For more information, contact the office at (718) 518-6561.
Admission to the commencement ceremony is by ticket only. Each adult and each child—two years and older—must have a ticket to occupy a seat. No tickets will be available at the center.
Each ticket admits one person only. Guests MUST bring their tickets to be permitted into the center. No guest will be allowed in without tickets. Tickets are not transferable. Please safeguard your tickets; they are the only way your guests will be allowed into the graduation exercises.
LENGTH OF CEREMONY:
The length of the ceremony is expected to be (3) three hours. It is recommended that you and your guests wear comfortable clothing and shoes and that you eat a meal prior to arrival.
Students interested in taking senior pictures should contact the Office of Student Activities starting Monday, March 4th to make an appointment. Pictures will be taken at the Hostos Photo Studio. There is no fee for taking the pictures. You will only be charged if you decide to purchase a photo package. Packages start at around $15.00. The photographer will provide a cap and gown for your use. The cap and gown will be provided to take photos only.
All graduating students will march across the stage. A professional photographer will take an individual picture of each of the students with President Matos Rodríguez. Representatives from Island Photography (www.islandphoto.com) will photograph the ceremony. You will receive more information about purchasing your photograph on the day of the ceremony. For additional information, please visit the Office of Student Activities (C-371) or call (718) 518-6561.
PHOTOGRAPHING THE CEREMONY:
During the ceremony, photography or videotaping will be allowed, but only from your seats. No one is allowed on the isles. An authorized photographer from Island Photography will be on stage to take photos of the graduates. If you approach the stage or stand on the aisles, you will be asked to return to your seat. Photographs will be available for purchase. Please visit the Office of Student Activities (C-371) or contact them (718) 518-6561 for more details.
No balloons will be allowed inside the center. NO EXCEPTIONS.
No baby carriages will be allowed inside the center. If you arrive with a baby carriage, there will be no check-in or Public Safety to look after your carriage. Note that each child 2 years or older requires a ticket to occupy a seat.

As space is limited and for security purposes per the center, no backpacks or big purses will be allowed inside.

New York City Center is a non-smoking facility. In addition, no food, refreshments of any sort, including alcoholic beverages will be permitted on the premises.
