Boleros

Sept. 20 through Dec. 6, 2017

Curators: Juanita Lanzo & Kimberly Rose

Main Gallery

Boleros features artwork by emerging artists responding to this music genre (Spanish love-themed songs) from the 30’s & 40’s that originated in Cuba & Mexico and is inspired by love/loss and gender relationships. Participating artists include Blanka Amezkua, Esperanza Cortes, and Rafael Melendez, who will challenge & revisit dynamics of love, sex, gender and relationship stereotypes of classic “bolero” songs that examine these themes. Public programs will include gallery talks and the active participation of visitors and the community contributing to our playlist.
