Experience the music and story of Florence Price — the first female African-American composer to be premiered by a major American orchestra — brought to life with dramatic monologues performed between works. Hear movements from three of Price’s string quartets, lush arrangements of spirituals, and dramatic readings in a program celebrating this great and under-sung composer who synthesized European and African-American traditions. Selections include Price’s takes on "My Country 'Tis Of Thee" and “My Soul’s Been Anchored In The Lord,” which was famously performed by Marian Anderson at the Lincoln Memorial; the inventive Five Folksongs in Counterpoint; and other works. Please consider bringing nonperishable food donations to the concert for City Harvest to aid their mission of feeding New Yorkers in need.
