Dental hygiene Web sites

American Dental Association

The official website of the American Dental Association provides dental and nutrition information for consumers in English and Spanish, news for dental professionals, and information about careers in the dental professions, including dental hygiene.

 

American Dental Hygienists’ Association

The ADHA is a membership organization that provides information, professional support, and educational support for dental hygienists.  Its website features a section for kids, information on scholarships, and free brochures on such topics as oral symptoms of diabetes, oral cancers, and oral health nutrition.

 

Dental Hygienists’ Association of the State of New York

This website provides information about state laws and licensing requirements pertaining to dental hygienists in New York State.  It links to state and national health-related organizations and local chapters of the Association.

 

MedlinePlus—Dental Health

Current, quality information for consumers compiled by the National Library of Medicine.  This site highlights current news, government information, and links to pamphlets and educational resources for consumers in both English and Spanish.

 

Dental Hygiene and Dental Technology Resource List – Southern Illinois University Carbondale
A comprehensive portal of web sites related to dental hygiene and technology selected by SIU librarians, this site links to associations, links on infection control, diseases and dental health, dental materials information, etc.  It is an excellent starting point for dental hygienists and students conducting web research in dental hygiene.

 

NOAH--New York Online Access to Health--Dental Care

Quality consumer information for dental health and hygiene selected by medical librarians in both English and Spanish.

 

National Center for Dental Hygiene Research
An excellent resource for dental hygiene students and practitioners, this site provides access to searchable indexes of journals, conference proceedings, and clinical trials. It also covers grants, education, and consumer information.

Healthfinder

This consumer health information site is maintained by the National Health Information Center of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It is a hand-selected directory of the health  related websites (including oral health) of over 1500 organizations - government, non-profit, and educational. Also available in Spanish.

 

Healthopedia—Mouth and Teeth (oral and dental) center

The mouth and teeth section of this consumer health-oriented online encyclopedia covers diseases and conditions, symptoms, procedures, tests, and miscellaneous dental issues such as dental injuries or children and dentistry.

 

DHChat Discussion Group
DHChat is a an electronic discussion group for research issues in dental hygiene. Topical discussions are led by specialists, and other contributions are encouraged.

 

Databases for Dental Hygiene Research

Academic Search Premier
Provides full text for nearly 3,200 multidisciplinary scholarly publications—from the humanities and ethnic studies to science and health.  It includes a collection of journals in allied health.

 

CINAHL Plus with Full Text
CINAHL® Plus with Full Text provides indexing for 3,001 journals from the fields of nursing and allied health, with coverage dating as far back as 1937. CINAHL Plus with Full Text provides full text for 327 journals, plus legal cases, clinical innovations, critical paths, drug records, research instruments and clinical trials. PDF backfiles to 1937 are also included.

 

Health Reference Center (Facts on File) 

Facts On File's Health Reference Center is an encyclopedic database containing thousands of hyperlinked entries organized into four major categories: conditions and diseases, mental health, health and wellness, and body systems. It provides clear information on the causes, cures, key research, medical terms, symptoms, treatments and trends, and organizations in each field of study. Each content area is searchable by keyword and has a browsable A-to-Z index. A list of links also allows the user to easily find more focused topics within each of the content areas.

 

Health Reference Center Academic    

Health Reference Center Academic integrates the full text and images of respected nursing, allied health and medical journals; consumer health magazines; newsletters; pamphlets; newspaper articles; topical overviews; and reference books.  It indexes or contains articles from both dental and dental hygiene journals.

 

Health & Wellness Resource Center

This database has reference materials as well as full-text magazines, journals, and pamphlets from a wide variety of authoritative medical sources. Additionally, there are descriptions of and links to several pertinent Web sites, selected for their usefulness and appropriateness.

 

MEDLINE
MEDLINE provides authoritative medical information on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, pre-clinical sciences, and much more. Created by the National Library of Medicine, MEDLINE allows users to search abstracts from over 4,000 current biomedical journals.

 

Nursing & Health Sciences: A SAGE Full-Text Collection
Nursing & Health Sciences: A SAGE Full-Text Collection includes the full text of 26 journals published by SAGE and participating societies, some journals going back 23 years, encompassing over 7,000 articles. It covers such subjects as nursing, social studies of health, nursing research, health services & administration, community / public health nursing, qualitative research, cultural studies, child psychiatry, transcultural psychiatry, adult health nursing, public health, public policy & public administration, health psychology, aging and gerontology, health communication, family studies, physiology, physical medicine & rehabilitation, pediatrics, holistic nursing, nursing theory, pediatric nursing, autism, mental disorders & learning disability, health education & health promotion, clinical psychology, developmental psychology, psychopathology, health evaluation, research methods & evaluation, dementia, and sociology of the family.
