Provides indexing for over 1200 nursing, allied health and health sciences journals. CINAHL Information Systems assembles this database. Latest update file 9/21/01.

 

Dialog@CARL
Collection of 300 databases covering news, business, reference, arts, humanities, social sciences, government, science, technology, medicine, and intellectual property. 18 Databases covers health and medicine subtopics such as AIDS, Nursing, Medicine, Nutrition and Foods. Over half of the databases offer full-text articles.

 

General Science Abstracts
General Science Abstracts indexes articles of at least one column in length from English-language periodicals published in the United States and Great Britain beginning with 1984. Topics include Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Conservation, Earth Science, Environment, Health, Mathematics, Medicine, Nutrition, and Physics. Abstracting coverage begins with periodicals published in March 1993. Includes a number of Nursing journals citations.

 

The Health Reference Center
The Health Reference Center is available on the World Wide Web through InfoTrac. This database contains full-text articles on fitness, pregnancy, medicine, nutrition, diseases, public health, occupational health and safety, HMOs and related subjects. Coverage begins with 1996. Provides access to several nursing journals.

Provides indexing and abstracts for over one million articles in 1,700 journals from over 50 countries.  Contains citations and summaries of journal articles, book chapters, books, dissertations, and technical reports, all in the field of psychology and the psychological aspects of related disciplines, such as medicine, psychiatry, nursing, sociology, education, pharmacology, physiology, linguistics, anthropology, business, and law. Academic Journal Directory Index  (for Nursing Journals)

“The Academic Journal Directory of the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Nursing contains listings for over 400 journals concerning clinical nursing, nursing education and research, and related health care fields.  A typical entry contains the full name of the journal, its publisher, its frequency of publication, its intended readership, the types of manuscripts reviewed, and a statement of purpose for prospective authors. Each journal entry includes a contact address and many provide links to the official websites of the journals and publishers.

It has three navigation methods: Alphabetical Lists, Journals Grouped by Subject, and Keyword Search. Click on the name of a method to move around in the Directory.”

 

ALA | Internet resources for nurses and nursing students

This is an article that presents the best free Internet resources for health professionals and nursing students. The authors are Hostos Library faculty and they have tried to include only the most useful and highest quality resources from among a rich array of choices. The article begins with annotated links to the many U.S. government agency sites that collect and offer health and medical data. There are also non-governmental sites that offer everything from online medical dictionaries and anatomy texts, to Rx guides, medical image collections, and websites with study aids for nursing students.

HighWire -- Free Online Full-text Articles

HighWire Press provides an archive of free full-text science. “As of 1/29/02, we are assisting in the online publication of 382,841 free full-text articles and 1,118,919 total articles. List limited to journals published online with the assistance of HighWire Press.”

Provides Table of contents, abstracts, and full text articles…. Articles are fully searchable and issues are available from January 1996 forward. Articles from a number of journals may now be read online and/or printed for a modest fee. Users must registers to access full-text articles.

netLibrary is a collection of full-text e-books, including 860 titles purchased by CUNY and the entire 4,000-volume netLibrary Public eBook Collection. netLibrary titles are listed in the CUNY+ catalog. netLibrary requires each user to register before checking out titles. Search CUNY+, the Online Catalog, for journals and books on nursing as a discipline.  Use the Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) such as “Nursing”,  “Surgical Nursing” or “Psychiatric Nursing”.  These terms can be searched as a “Subject” ( example, S=Nursing) or as keywords (example, K=Psychiatric and Nursing).  Items located at Hostos Community College are indicated in CUNY+ as HO. To restrict your searches to the Hostos CC Library, type set cat ho in the command line and hit the <enter> key.

WWW version of the OCLC union catalog contains bibliographic information on over 39 million items from books and journals to CD-ROMs and videos. Search via keyword, author or title. Includes holding information from libraries around the world. Your searches can be limited to the Hostos Community College.
