Our Collections
Hostos Library is continually building its collections to meet the
information needs of students, faculty, and staff who come here to learn and
study. Books in the library are organized by subject according to the Library of
Congress Classification system. Hostos collections are can be searched in CUNY+, the catalog for all libraries in CUNY.
Students, faculty, and staff can borrow books from most CUNY campus libraries
through CLICS
and have them delivered to Hostos Library.
The General Collection has nearly 50,000 titles and includes books that support
all subjects taught at Hostos. It is located in the main reading room.
Hostos Library’s Reference Collection is located in the reference area. These
books provide information like statistics, overview information on a topic, or
definitions. They may not be checked out. We are adding more and more reference
materials in electronic format.
The Leisure Reading & Paperback collections are located at the bottom of the
stairs between the computers. They include popular books such as bestsellers,
romance novels, mysteries, self-help, award-winners, and other good reads.
Hostos Library subscribes to over 300 journals and newspapers. Current issues
are available at the Reserve desk. Older issues of selected journals are bound
and shelved in the main reading room. Bound journals cannot be checked out.
The Media Collection includes videos and DVD’s used for classes. No items from
the media collection are available for circulation.
The heavily-used Reserve Collection includes books that are currently being used
for classes, such as textbooks and supplementary readings. These books may not
be taken from the library.
