Equipment Use Policies
If all the computers are in-use, anyone using computers for non-academic purposes and anyone who has already used a computer for more than an hour,
may be asked to leave the workstation and relocate to a kiosk. Access to social networking sites is limited on these workstations. Please use the Library Kiosks in the vestibule for access to Facebook, Myspace, etc.
The study rooms and group tables (with the Plasma screens) may be booked up to two days in advance, for up to two hours each day. Any group with an appointment has priority over any group without an appointment. Groups must consist of at least 3 people, and the person who books the area must show a Hostos student ID.
Wireless keyboards, mice and remote controls are available for use with the LCD screens. Dry-erase markers are available for the group study areas. Headphones are also available. Students must leave their IDs at the Reference Desk when they borrow these items.
The copy machine and printers are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please limit your copy/ printing time to five minutes when there is a line.
- Food and beverages are not allowed anywhere in the library.
- Cellphones must be off or set to vibrate. Quiet phone conversations are allowed in the ILC only (nowhere else in the library), at the discretion of the Reference Librarian on duty.
- The ILC is not a quiet area. If you need a quiet area please use a study carrel in the library's main reading room.
- This is a cooperative learning space. Loud or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
