Kate Lyons brings a combination of reference, technology, instruction and leadership experience to her new position as Reference & Information Technology Librarian. She worked as Information Literacy Specialist for Click on @ the library (NYPL), the largest digital divide initiative in a public library setting, in the country, and later as a Supervising Librarian at NYPL. In 2005, she was named a NY Times Librarian of the Year. Prior to NYPL, she worked as a web developer.

Her research interests include organizational use of collaborative technologies for long-distance project management, as well as the effect of collaborative technology on organizational culture. She is also interested in how libraries use social software to connect with users. On March 15, 2007 she co-presented “Where’s the Gap? Exploring the Digital and Generational Divide in Academic Libraries” with Rhonda Johnson at the Technology and Library Services Symposium at Princeton University.
