Evaluating Information

Is the Information Timely?

Criteria to Consider:

  • Is the information still valid for your topic?

Some information remains valid over time for certain subject areas. The Bill of Rights (the first 10 amendments to the Constitution) is an example of a document which is still valid after 200 years.

Sometimes, information may become discredited or obsolete. For example, older maps may not reflect geopolitical changes that have occurred.

In other cases, information may be periodically revised.
