Thursday, February 9, 2012 (Bronx, NY) - The unending and ruthlessly fast paced world of technology does not go unnoticed here at Hostos. The Technology Town Hall meeting that took place on Thursday, February 2, at the Savoy’s Multipurpose room proved to be fun, engaging and timely.
Varun Sehgal, Assistant VP of Information Technology, prepared a program that created participatory learning and dialogue; enumerated what IT is presently testing for future usability; outlined the security and interface mobility challenges that technology presents to all; made the conference available through live-stream; and re-enforced Hostos’ role as an equal player in the collegiate technology field.
The Department of Educational Technology distributed their newsletter, which offers readers additional tips and leads for classroom projects, teacher training, and student opportunities.
During the meeting attendees were handed a hand held device used to motivate active discrete participation by responding to multiple choice questions on the screens. Through a series of multiple choice answers displayed in the visual screens Hostos faculty, administration and staff learned that, when in doubt, Department Chairs are solidly the best liaison between IT and Academic Affairs.
“I believe the Townhall was a success and we will continue to have these forums where faculty, staff and administrators can come together to learn, discuss, and share the challenges and successes of our technology platform. It is equally important for us to hear the voices of the campus we serve. Hopefully soon we will have this dialogue with the student body. We want to continue to serve Hostos for the 21st century, and retain our position as a leader” indicated Assistant Vice President Varun Sehgal.
