Monday, June 4, 2012 (Bronx, NY) - “We knew it all along—that you were good. Really, really good!”

That affirmation came from Hostos Community College President Félix V. Matos Rodríguez at the college’s 28th Honors Convocation, which was held in the Main Theater on May 29th.

In the presence of scores of their relatives and friends, over 200 students were recognized for all-around excellence in and out of the classroom by President Matos Rodríguez, Provost Carmen Coballes-Vega, and others.

With many members of the College’s administration seated on the stage, President Matos Rodríguez had another message for the graduates: Don’t stop here because the best is yet to come. The President urged these young men and women to thank the Hostos faculty and staff, and also their families and friends, for helping them come this far and to remember to “complete the circle” by giving back, no matter what path they choose.

Dr. Hector López, Chair of the College Senate, said the graduates represented great “intellectual power” and reminded them of the incomparable work of Eugenio María de Hostos, the Puerto Rican educator, philosopher and patriot for whom the College is named.

Before the students received their awards, 2012 Valedictorian Herminio Torres delivered an invocation.

At the Commencement Ceremony on Friday, June 1st, graduates with a grade point average of 3.7 and above will march wearing gold stoles to signify that they have received Scholastic Achievement Awards.
