PRESIDENTS OF BRONX CUNY COLLEGES IN COLLABORATION WITH 1199SEIU CELEBRATE BRONX DOMINICAN PARADE WITH ELECTED OFFICIALS

Presidents of Bronx CUNY Colleges in Collaboration with 1199SEIU Celebrate Bronx Dominican Parade with Elected Officials

Tuesday, September 03, 2013 (Bronx, NY) – Before the 24th Annual Bronx Dominican Day Parade on Sunday, July 28, 2013, a breakfast reception was held at Eugenio María de Hostos Community College. This event was sponsored by the Bronx Dominican Parade Inc., 1199SEIU United Health Care Workers East, and Hostos.

The three CUNY Bronx college presidents celebrated with students and members of the community. Hostos President Félix V. Matos Rodríguez, Lehman President Ricardo Fernández, and BCC President Carole B. Joseph gave greetings on behalf of their respective institutions. The Dominican National Anthem was performed by Altagracia Hiraldo, Executive Director of the Dominican Sunday, Inc.

The directors of the Bronx Dominican Parade, 1199SEIU Vice Presidents Victor Rivera, and Estela Vásquez gave welcoming remarks and encouraged everyone to participate in the parade. The elected officials commended Mrs. Ayala and Mr. Febles for their ongoing commitment to the community and saluted the Bronx college presidents, students for their participation and support.

Scholarship recipients from CUNY colleges in the Bronx, as well as a teacher training program participant, gave greetings and thanked the scholarship sponsors for supporting their career aspirations. These included the Bronx Dominican Parade, the CUNY colleges, 1199SEIU, and the New York Yankees. TV Producer Roberto Gerónimo also gave greetings.

Jason Libfeld, Coordinator of the Hostos Leadership Academy, Victor Rivera, Vice President of 1199SEIU, and Associate Dean Ana I. García Reyes were moderators. Assistant Dean Johanna Gómez and Associate Dean Ana I. García Reyes were both selected as Godmothers of the parade. The Presidents’ Office and other divisions of the college were represented by the following: Dolly Martínez, Assistant Vice President and Deputy to the President; Idelsa Méndez, Career Services Counselor; José García, Public Relations Assistant; and César Barreto, Information System Aide; and Victor Santana and Félix Monegro, both from the President’s Office.
