Tuesday, June 26, 2012 (Bronx, NY) - The Hostos Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Development held its annual Awards and Appreciation Ceremony on June 20.
The event was held to recognize both people inside and outside the department who support the office that offers educational, career, and personal development opportunities designed to address the needs of the Bronx and Upper Manhattan communities.
Held in the Savoy Building, the event was organized by Dean Lorraine Altman and Executive Director Peter Mertens and their staff.
Vice President for the Division of Continuing Education & Workforce Development, Carlos Molina, gave opening remarks.
“It was wonderful to have the opportunity of sharing with the talented faculty who teach our courses and break bread with them. The evening was a rewarding, warm and loving experience,” said Vice President Carlos Molina.
A number of faculty were also recognized for their outstanding service, including special recognition to Professor Eunice Flemister, head of the Gerontology Department at Hostos, for creating a “state-of-art” curriculum to enhance the Certified Nursing Assistant Program.
The “Making the Difference Award” went to Assistant Dean Lorraine Altman; the “Essential Piece Award” went to CUNY Career Path Director Fern Chan and the “Above and Beyond Award” was given to Peter Mertens, the Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Development’s Executive Director. Committee members Leslie Allende-Lake, Jacqueline Sotomayor-Oyola and Jessica Viella were also recognized, as well as 9 college assistants and 19 staff members.
The day also provided a chance to thank supporting departments such as the Bursar’s Office, receivables, the mailroom and payroll.
The Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Development was also happy to remind the attendees of the up-coming fall inauguration of its new building located at 560 Exterior Street at 149th Street.
