Tuesday, February 14, 2011 (Bronx, NY) - Khalid Yousef, a freshman standout on the Hostos basketball team, sported an outstanding 3.76 GPA in his first semester as a Caiman. A graduate of Robert F. Kennedy High School and a Queens native, Yousef places academics as his top priority at Hostos Community College. Goal-oriented and ambitious, Yousef has provided yet another strong example for his teammates and helped improve the team GPA to an impressive 2.55 this past fall. For this, Khalid earned an honorable mention at the CUNYAC / Hospital for Special Surgery Scholar-Athlete of the Month this past December.
Head Coach Dr. Jody King could not be prouder of Yousef's efforts: "Khalid has been a bright surprise this season. His willingness to adapt to change, follow instructions, and be a consummate student-athlete are the reasons for his ultimate success at Hostos." In the month of December, Yousef played in six games, totaling 22 points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists and three steals.
On the floor he shot 7-for-18, and knocked down two of his four three pointers and shot 4-for-6 on the free throw line. Yousef continues to be a key element to Hostos' top standings in the NJCAA Region XV and the CUNY Athletic Conference.
