William Osorio, Jr., stands with Mayor Michael Bloomberg at the 3rd Annual NYC DADS Matter Awards Ceremony.

Thursday, June 27, 2013 (Bronx, NY) - William Osorio, Jr., a 2012 Hostos Student Government Association member and veteran of the United States Marine Corps, received public recognition from Mayor Michael Bloomberg at the 3rd Annual NYC DADS Matter Awards Ceremony, which was held at Gracie Mansion on June 13.

William, who lives and works in the Bronx, never knew his biological father and lost his mother and step-father when he was 13. He credits his military experience with helping him prepare to overcome life’s obstacles and inspiring him to be a good father to his son, Nathan.

Nominated with 269 other men for this award, William was one of only 10 who received it.

The award is a part of the “The Mayor’s Fatherhood Initiative.” Its purpose is to spread the message about the importance of fatherhood, and recognize special NYC dads who have overcome challenges to become positive and consistent forces in their children’s lives.
