ASSOCIATION OF HISPANIC HEALTHCARE EXECUTIVES
AND NATIONAL HISPANIC CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ON HEALTH PRESENT PRESIDENT MATOS RODRÍGUEZ WITH ACADEMIC LEADER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Tuesday, June 21, 2011 (Bronx, NY)- The Association of Hispanic Healthcare Executives and the National Hispanic Chamber of Commerce on Health awarded President Félix V. Matos Rodríguez with an Academic Leader of the Year Award during the 11th Healthcare Diversity Awards Gala held last Friday, June 17th, at the Tian restaurant at the Riverbank State Park in Upper Manhattan.

This year’s theme focused on “Today’s Leaders, Tomorrow’s Innovators” and brought together the most influential Hispanic leaders within the healthcare and business community.

“The Association of Hispanic Healthcare Executives’ active work in developing the educational pipeline for Latino students in the healthcare field is invaluable for our community. Hostos is involved in this area with an important new Career Pipeline healthcare initiative. Accepting this award is an honor and a demonstration of how educators and professionals of the healthcare and business Latino community are indeed working towards a common vision of supporting and fostering our future voices in civic life,” indicated President Matos Rodríguez.

Also in attendance where presidents of the Hispanic Dental Association, the National Association of Hispanic Nurses, the Association of Hispanic Mental Health Professionals, the National Hispanic Medical Association, the Spanish American Medical Dental Society of NY, the Dominican Medical Association, and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce board members from the northeast.

About Hostos Community College
Eugenio María de Hostos Community College, part of The City University of New York system, was founded in 1968.  Located in the South Bronx, the college currently serves nearly 7,000 students.  In addition to associate degree programs that facilitate easy transfer to CUNY’s four-year colleges or baccalaureate studies at other institutions, Hostos also has an award-winning Continuing Education and Professional Studies Department that offers courses for professional development and certificate-bearing workforce training programs. In four decades, Hostos has grown from a class of 623 in the fall of 1970 to the spring 2010 enrollment of nearly 7,000 students.  The college also serves an additional 12,000 students through its Continuing Education and Professional Studies Department.
