Tuesday, January 22, 2013 (Bronx, NY) - Three Hostos Community College athletes were recently named CUNYAC/Applebee's Male Athlete of the Week; CUNYAC/Applebee's Rookie of the Week; and CUNYAC/Applebee's Female Athlete of the Week. Men’s basketball players Chad Coachman, Tyree White, Chad’s teammate, and women’s basketball player Kristina Shcherban, won the awards respectively that highlight their hard work on and off the court.
Coachman, a guard, scored 24 points and recorded four assists and four steals in an 82-63 win over Globe Institute of Technology on Saturday, January 5. The win extends Hostos' winning streak to 12 games. As a result, the Caimans have cracked the top 10 in the NJCAA Division III national rankings. This is the second time Coachman has won this award during the 2012-2013 season.
White, a freshman forward, recorded his third double-double of the season, putting up 13 points and 10 rebounds in the victory against Globe Institute of Technology.
Shcherban, a sophomore forward, scored 20 points and registered four rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks in a recent 59-53 win against Dutchess. The Russian native averages 15.8 points, six rebounds, 1.7 assists, 2.7 steals and one block this season. This is the second time Shcherban has won this award during the 2012-2013 season.
