PROFESSOR KISHA BURGOS WINS BEST ACTRESS AWARD FOR HER PERFORMANCE IN THE FILM 'UNDER MY NAILS' THE GRAND JURY PRIZE WINNER AT THE SAN JUAN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

Professor Kisha Burgos Wins Best Actress Award For Her Performance in the Film 'Under My Nails' the Grand Jury Prize Winner at the San Juan International Film Festival

Friday, October 21, 2011 (Bronx, NY)- At this year’s San Juan International Film Festival, Hostos Community College held a place in the stars with the Grand Jury Prize winning film, Under My Nails, written and produced by Hostos Professor Kisha Burgos. Professor Burgos also starred in the film and won the Best Actress Award for her stellar performance.

The Grand Jury Prize winning film, Under My Nails was produced by La Teta Productions, LLC, and was directed by Arí Manuel Cruz author of this year’s acclaimed Off- Broadway hit, La Barberia, starring Manny Peréz. Under My Nails shot in New York and Puerto Rico with actors from Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Cuba.

The production also shot two scenes at Hostos Community College that appear in the film with several Hostos students appearing as extras. Acknowledgement is given to the College in the ending credits.

Professor Kisha Burgos will next be seen in Chain Reaction, as Antonia Pantoja, Hostos’ original play by Professor Tere Martínez, inspired by the legendary Puerto Rican educator.

Under My Nails cast: Kisha Tikina Burgos, Iván Camilo, Antonio Pantojas, Dolores Pedro, Rosie Berrido, Enrique Juliá, Miranda Purcell, Marilú Acosta y Maite Bonilla.

Eugenio María de Hostos Community College, part of The City University of New York system, was founded in 1968.  Located in the South Bronx, the college currently serves nearly 7,000 students.  In addition to associate degree programs that facilitate easy transfer to CUNY’s four-year colleges or baccalaureate studies at other institutions, Hostos also has an award-winning Continuing Education and Professional Studies Department that offers courses for professional development and certificate-bearing workforce training programs. In four decades, Hostos has grown from a class of 623 in the fall of 1970 to the spring 2010 enrollment of nearly 7,000 students.  The college also serves an additional 12,000 students through its Continuing Education and Professional Studies Department.
