The Hostos Community College,
GALOS Corporation and the Diversity Foundation
Award Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarships

What: The Hostos Community College Alumni Relations office, GALOS Corporation, the Diversity Foundation, Hot-97Radio and HealthFirst will award Catina Rogers and Lillian M. George with a $500 dollar Martin Luther King Jr. scholarship for their outstanding academic performance. The winners were chosen from a group of 13 applicants. For six consecutive years, the Diversity Foundation with the support of the Galos Corporation has given more than 250 scholarships to promising and financially underserved students throughout New York City. Catina Rogers and Lillian George are both members of the Hostos Leadership Academy under Jason Lidfield.

About the Recipients:

Catina Rogers

Catina was born in Brooklyn and raised in Harlem. She is now 36 years old and has found her passion at Hostos in the area of community health. She plans to establish programs and policies that will benefit underserved communities. Catina holds a 3.8 GPA, is a current member of the PTK and The Student Leadership Academy. Catina graduates spring 2011.

Lillian M. George

Lillian plans to complete a bachelors, a masters and a doctoral degree to eventually own her own business and be able to give back to her community. She’s a bit of West Indies, Jamaican, Dominican and African-American. She has a 3.7 GPA and works part-time at a retail store. She graduates in June 2011 with a degree in liberal arts.

About the Diversity Foundation:

The Diversity Foundation is a charitable non-profit 501c (3) organization founded in 2001 to encourage and financially support students who are academically gifted to attend undergraduate and graduate programs at approved colleges and universities.
During the past eight years the Diversity Foundation in cooperation with CUNY and Corporate America has successfully secured financial support, distributing over 250 scholarships to qualifying students from diverse backgrounds. http://diversityfoundation.net/Diversity_Home.html
