On Sunday, October 4, 2009, Eugenio María de Hostos Community College welcomed hundreds of alumni, their families and friends, and other supporters to its Third Annual Homecoming.  This year’s celebration, entitled El Reencuentro, was held from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in and around the college, and the festivities began in the lobby of the East Academic Complex (C Building) at 450 Grand Concourse.

“I am delighted to welcome everyone to El Reencuentro,” said Dr. Félix V. Matos Rodríguez, who took office as president of Hostos on July 1, 2009.  “Headed by Nydia Edgecombe, our Director of Alumni Relations, an enthusiastic committee of past and present students, faculty and staff members, and other volunteers welcomed guests from local communities and throughout the United States.”

“We are very excited about the concept of El Reencuentro,” said Edgecombe. “This is to provide opportunities for our alumni and their families and friends to renew old ties and make new ones, to reminisce about their time at Hostos and share post-college experiences, and to reconnect with their alma mater in meaningful ways.”

Coinciding with the ¡Viva Bronx! Festival, this homecoming celebration included a barbecue luncheon in the C Building parking lot, a photography exhibit featuring the work of two Hostos graduates, portraits of our alumni and their families, and many entertaining activities for children, including storytelling, face painting and magic shows.

El Reencuentro concluded with a parade led by President Matos Rodríguez.  After the parade, the ¡Viva Bronx! Festival took place on the Grand Concourse.

The event was coordinated by Hostos Community College’s Office of Alumni Relations.
