September 17, 2012 (Bronx, NY) - Rosa Sánchez Rodríguez, a sophomore setter on the Hostos women’s volleyball team, has been named the first CUNYAC/Applebee’s Female Athlete of the Week.

The Caimans 5-foot-6-inch captain shined in the home opener against Bergen this week. Throughout the four-set match, she helped keep the team alive during its hard fought, 14-25, 26-24, 22-25, 19-25, loss.

For the game, Rodríguez compiled a .600 hitting percentage, 14 assists, and 7 digs, but it was her 7 serving aces that stood out and helped motivate her teammates in what was the home opener.

The energetic Rodríguez is sure to be a player to watch all season.
