  • Hostos Food Studies Program Continues To Gain Attention

    William Nunez, a second-year student at Hostos Community College, has had a long-standing interest in nutrition, and was conscious of health issues because of diabetes in his family. I met William during a recent visit to the College, where the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund is supporting the start-up of a new Food Studies program. Although he is a theater major, he was intrigued when he heard about the new program, and he wanted to be a part of the pilot class.

    On Sept. 3, 2015, Hostos’ Career Services and the Division of Continuing Education welcomed students and alumni to the Job & Internship Fest to kick-off the fall semester. The event attracted 38 employers and 154 students and former students to the Savoy Multipurpose Room.

    Hostos Distinguished Professor Isaac Goldemberg from the Humanities Department has published three new works: Remember the Scorpion; Dialoghi con me e con i miei altri/ Diálogos conmigo y mis otros;” and Chepén, madre de arena. These titles were all published in 2015 and represent the latest works of one of Peru’s most renowned poets and fiction writers.

    “The Swamp” received a huge facelift over the past year, as the Hostos gymnasium received a new floor and paint, bleachers, wall padding, and even new championship banners and shot clock.
