The Digital Design and Urban Research Studio will give students the opportunity to study art and design as they explore fundamental questions about how the city works. Students will learn digital design skills as they create a community action multi-media tool that will be used by a local advocacy organization. Students will also learn investigative journalism skills as they conduct behind-the-scenes interviews around the city. The program is open to rising 10th and 11th graders and will run from July 7th, 2014 until August 14th, 2014.
The College Now Bronx Civic Scholars Institute provides rising high school seniors with a three-credit American Government course; a daily college awareness workshop; and over sixty hours of an internship at a community-based organization that focuses on community organizing and youth activism (the sites include the Bronx Defenders, and Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition.). In addition, students have field trips each week related to the curriculum. The program will run from June 30th, 2014 until August 7th, 2014.
Summer Intensive English Language Program application
The Summer Intensive English Language Program (SIELP) is a six-week program designed to help English Language Learners who have completed the 9th grade improve their English language skills in preparation for success in their transition to college. Students participate in an intensive, history-based thematic curriculum which focuses on the American Revolution, and receive: 30 hours a week of instruction, including 4 hours of reading/ writing/ listening comprehension and Internet research; 1 hour of physical activity. Students also participate in weekly field trips in support of the curriculum. The program will run from June 30th, 2014 until August 7th, 2014.
Let's Get Ready expands access to college in America by mobilizing, equipping, and empowering a movement of college students helping high school students get to college through intensive SAT preparation, college advising, and the powerfully relevant role-models and mentors they need to succeed. The College Focus Summer Program, which is designed to help high school students avoid remedial coursework in Math or Reading/Writing at CUNY and qualify for admissions to a four-year CUNY college, may be a great alternative for them. The five week, 4-day program will run from July 7th – August 7th.Upon program completion, students who pass the CUNY Assessment Tests will have the opportunity to enroll in College Now courses in their senior year.
