College Now - Summer Programs

Hostos Community College is pleased to offer the highest caliber instruction and administrative support. We pride ourselves on being accessible to our students and their families.

Applications  

 

  • Digital Design application
    The  Digital Design and  Urban  Research Studio  will allow 15 students the opportunity to study art and design as they explore fundamental questions about how the city works.  Students  will learn digital design skills as they create a community action multi-media tool that will be used by a local advocacy organization.  Students will also learn investigative journalism skills as they conduct behind-the-scenes interviews around the city.  The program is open to rising 10th and 11th graders and will run from July 8th, 2013 until  August 15th, 2013. 


  • Bronx Civic Scholar Institute Program application
    The College Now Bronx Civic Scholars Institute provides rising high school seniors with a three-credit American Government course; a daily practicum which helps students connect academics to their internship and develop “real world” and college readiness skills; and over sixty hours of an internship at a community-based organization that focuses on community organizing and youth activism (the sites include the Bronx Defenders, the Blk Projek, and Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition.). In addition, students have field trips each week related to the curriculum.  The program will run from July 1st, 2013 until August  8th, 2013.


  • Summer Intensive English Language Program application
    The Summer Intensive Language Program (SIELP) at Hostos Community College is a six-week program designed to help English Language Learners who have completed the 9th grade improve their English language skills in preparation for success in their transition to college. Students participate in an intensive, history-based thematic curriculum which focuses on the American Revolution, and receive: 30 hours a week of instruction, including 4 hours of reading/ writing/ listening comprehension and Internet research; 1 hour of physical activity. Students also participate in weekly field trips in support of the curriculum. The program will run from July 1st, 2013 until August 9th, 2013.  


  • College Focus Application
    College Focus is designed primarily to help high school students avoid remedial coursework at the City University of New York and qualify for admission to a four-year CUNY college.  College Focus classes prepare students to pass the CUNY Assessment Tests, in order to meet standards for placement into credit-bearing courses upon entrance to a CUNY college.  Eligible students participate in pre- and post-assessment, and complete a 60-hour course over five weeks. The program is open to rising seniors and will runs Monday – Thursday from July 9th 2013 until August 8th, 2013.


  • Lets Get Ready
    Let's Get Ready expands access to college in America by mobilizing, equipping, and empowering a movement of college students helping high school students get to college through intensive SAT preparation, college advising, and the powerfully relevant role-models and mentors they need to succeed.  The program  run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from  June 13th, 2013 until August 15th, 2013 .  For information and applications, please visit www.letsgetready.org.
