1. What is Impatica for PowerPoint?
Impatica for PowerPoint software program reads and interprets PowerPoint files for use over the web.

How Impatica works:

Impatica takes PowerPoint presentations, including any associated sound, animation, or video components and coverts it into a compressed form. The presentation can then be accessed from a webpage where a small Java applet streams the content.

Significant advantages:
  • Data compression – average 95%. Especially important for presentations with multimedia files
  • Impaticized presentations are tiny, secure, and cannot be altered
  • Plug-in free delivery over the internet- no special software required, thus Impacticized presentations do not require Microsoft PowerPoint application installed on the user's computer
  • Impaticized presentation can be uploaded to Blackboard and or email without large cumbersome attachments. Playback is faster!

2. How can I get Impatica installed on my computer?
The Office of Instructional Technology (OIT) can give you a copy of the software and the license number to install it. You need to bring a blank CD to the OIT Office (C-559) to make a copy of the software and contact the IT Department in order to be able to install it on your computer.

3. How can I receive support and/or training on Impatica for PowerPoint?

4. How can I Impacitize a Power Point presentation?
Quick Steps for Impaticizing a PowerPoint presentation:
  • Create and save your PowerPoint presentation
  • Open Impatica for PowerPoint
  • Click the Addbutton in the top right-hand corner
  • Browse and locate your PowerPoint file, and then click "Open"
By default, Impatica files are saved in the same folder as the original PowerPoint presentation
  • Choose your conversation settings: Leave all default settings!
    1. Slide Show Tab- check, Include Playback Controls; provides for better navigation control
    2. Extra Output Tab – Check "Zip Package" and leave the html option checked
  • Click Impaticize
  • When the conversion process is compete, click preview to see the Impaticized presentation
  • Click Done

5. How can I upload an Impaticized presentation to Blackboard?
  • Log onto Blackboard: http://blackboard-doorway.cuny.edu
  • Enter a course that you are teaching and navigate to the Control Panel
  • Choose the Course Area where you would like to upload your Impaticized presentation, e.g. Course Documents
  • Click on "+ Item"
  • Under "Attachments" browse and locate the Zip folder, click "Open"
  • Under Name of Link to File, give your link a name
  • Under "Special Action", click the down arrow and choose "Unpackage this file"
  • Click "Submit"
  • On the next screen, choose the .html as the Entry Point
  • Your presentation has been posted

6. How can I send my Impaticized presentation via email?
Impatica for PowerPoint makes it easy for your student to view fully animated and narrated PowerPoint presentation by email. To send your impactized presentation via email, do the following:

Important: A java enabled web browser is required to view an Impaticized email presentation. Java is free program that is already installed on most computers. To ensure that your students will view your email presentation, please provide the link to the download the latest version of the Java program in your email message. To download Java, visit: http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp

Uploading an Impaticized presentation to your email
  • Log into your Hostos Email
  • Click the New Message button
  • Click the Attachment button or the Insert New File clip
  • Browse and Locate the Impatica file for attachment. You must choose the Impatica file "-imp.jar" to attach to your email message
  • Address your email message and input your message in the body of the email
  • Click Send
  • Once the recipients open and run the presentation, this will automatically create a self-playing presentation

7. Can I edit an Impaticized presentation?
Impaticized presentation cannot be edited directly. To modify your presentation, you must return to your original PowerPoint file on your computer, then repeat the process to:
  • Impactize a PowerPoint presentation
  • The upload process for Blackboard and/or email

8. My pictures in Impatica look grainy. What can I do?
Impatica significantly reduces the size of your PowerPoint file so that even users with dial-up modems can view your Impaticized presentation. Unfortunately, when the file size is reduced, the quality of your pictures is likely to be affected. To improve the quality of your pictures:
  • Open Impatica for PowerPoint
  • Add your PowerPoint file to Impatica, and choose your conversion settings
  • Click the Media Tab
  • Increase the JPEG Quality percentage. (The standard setting for JPEG quality is 70%) Note: This action will increase the size of your file
  • Click Impaticize

9. The audio in my Impaticized presentation sounds poor. What can I do?
Impatica significantly reduces the size of your PowerPoint. Unfortunately, when the file size is reduced, the quality of your audio files is likely to be affected. To improve the quality of the audio:
  • Open Impatica for PowerPoint
  • Add your PowerPoint file to Impatica, and choose your conversion settings
  • Click the Media tab
  • Change the Sound Format setting. (the default setting for Sound Format is Compact)
    Note: This action will increase the size of your file
  • Click Impaticize
  • Click Done
