Description: This course exposes students to compound statements, Truth tables, Rules of Inference, Quantifiers, Paradoxes, Elementary Set Theory, Boolean Algebra, and Switching Networks. (Course 2, MQ3)


Problem Solving (Pre-Algebra)

Class Hours: 1 hour / 4 days per week / 8 weeks

Description: This course provides essential concepts for the study of Algebra. Topics: problem solving strategies, exponents, scientific notation, integer operations, order of operations, evaluating expressions, translating phrases and equations, solving equations.

Problem Solving (Algebra-Level 1)

Class Hours: 1-hour/4 days a week/8 weeks

Description: This course is designed for students who have had pre-algebra and will most likely be taking Algebra 1 (Course 1, MQ1). Topics: Problem solving strategies, operations with rational numbers, combining and evaluating expressions, Equations and inequalities, Absolute value, Polynomials and Exponents, Factoring, Quadratic Equations.

Description: This course is designed for students who have had Algebra I (Course 1, MQ1) and will most likely be taking Algebra II (Course 1, MQ2). Topics: Problem solving strategies, Equations and inequalities, Absolute value, Factoring, Quadratic Equations, Linear Equations, System of Equations, Rational Expressions and Equations.

Description: This course is designed for students who have had Algebra I (Course 1, MQ1 and MQ2) and will most likely be taking algebra II (Course 2, MQ4). Topics: Factoring, Linear Equations, Radical Expressions and Equations, Complex Numbers, Quadratic Equations, Problem Solving Strategies.

Problem Solving (Geometry)

Description: This course is designed for students who have completed Algebra I (Courses 1, MQ1 & MQ2)
and will most likely be taking geometry (Course 2, MQ3). Topics: problem solving strategies, points, lines, planes, angles, polygons, polyhedral, area, perimeter, circles, symmetry, similarity, ratio and proportions, constructions.

Problem Solving (Advanced Math)

Class Hours: 1 hour / 4 days per week / 8 weeks

Description: This course is designed for students who have completed Algebra I and Geometry (Courses I
and II). Topics: evaluating expressions, dividing polynomials, function notation, diophantine equations, dimensional analysis, interior angles of polygons, imaginary numbers, Law of cosines, logarithms, angles of elevations.

Introduction to Engineering

Class Hours: 1 hour / 4 days per week / 4 weeks

Description: Lecture / laboratory hands-on project oriented class with the following topics: The Engineering Profession, measurements, simple mechanics, work-energy, engineering design; in class and laboratory demonstration of engineering principles and team designs of bridges, rockets, electrical motors, levers,
pulley systems, magnets, springs, interface circuit boards.

Description: Lecture / Laboratory class

focusing on: Introduction to computers, explanation of basic hardware and software applications; solving problems by developing algorithms and using flow charting; writing programs in BASIC.

Research and Study Sessions

Class Hours: 1 hour / 4 days per week / 8 weeks Required Text: NYPREP Curriculum. Description: A daily small group class that provided students with time to work on class assignments, computer projects, writing assignments, engineering model projects, or personal development activities such as resume writing, note-taking, stress reduction, building self esteem, following directions, college researching, and career planning.

Internet Technologies

Class Hours: 1 hour / 2 days per week / 4 weeks

Description: Lecture / Laboratory class focusing on majors Internet Programs such as electronic mail, ftp
(for file transfer, newsreaders, World Wide Web browsers (e.g., Netscape) and searching tools.

Description: Numerous and varied experiences with problem solving as a method of inquiry and application
so that students can: use problem solving approaches to investigate and understand mathematical content, formulate problems, develop and apply a variety of strategies to solve problems, verify and interpret results, generalizes solutions and strategies to new problem situations, and acquire confidence in using mathematics meaningfully.

Algebraic Structures

Class Hours: 1 hour / 4 days per week / 8 weeks

Description: This course reviews and expands the student’s understanding of the properties of real number systems. Clock arithmetic is used as a vehicle for understanding many of these properties. Topics: groups, rings, and fields.
