At Home in College (AHIC)

AHIC

Program Overview

At Home in College (AHIC) is a Robin Hood Foundation-funded CUNY college transition program working with students from New York City public high schools and CUNY GED programs who have not met traditional benchmarks of college readiness (via Regents or SAT scores).  The immediate goal of the project is to increase the college enrollment and third semester retention rates of these student populations, with the long-term goal being increased college graduation rates. To date, over 3,000 students in over 60 high schools and 3 CUNY GED programs have been served.

AHIC focuses primarily on student retention and persistence, creating a nurturing environment for students through graduation. AHIC at Hostos Community College assists in the development and implementation of a wide range of student support services that include:

  • Tracking the academic progress of all AHIC
  • students enrolled in Hostos Community College
  • Providing academic advisement
  • Paid-internships
  • Off-Campus CUNY tours/information sessions
  • Coordinating visits and workshops for high school seniors in collaboration with the CUNY (CAT) Creative arts Team
