Pre-reading statement of opinion:  Do you agree that when we are young, it is sometimes considered important to have an adult figure other than our parents – an aunt or uncle or a close family friend – to confide in?  Why or why not?

Post-reading guided summary:  Describe how Karen Washabau’s aunt gave her the support she needed through her childhood and give reasons why her aunt’s personality qualified her for the “profession of auntship” (43).

Personal response:  Write your reaction to one or two aspects of the summary you have written, and try to connect this response to the opinion that you expressed before reading the StoryCorps transcript.
